Susan Macarthur is a Fellow of the
Society of Designer
Craftsmen. The special feature of her work is the delicate texture which
is created by using fabric, metallic thread, fabric dyes and acrylic paint.
She studied Fine Art at California State, Long Beach and Laguna Beach School
of Art and whilst drawing, painting and sculpting discovered fabric and
stitch. On returning to England she has gone on to experiment with different
techniques and materials to portray the human form. Now living and working
in Wiltshire, Susan shows her work through galleries, exhibitions and art
fairs but can also be contacted
for direct sales and commissions. |

‘For some reason, like thousands before
me, I am continually drawn to the drama of the figure. The abstract
shapes produced by light and dark combine with an underlying layering of
pattern and texture that help to create a three dimensional effect. I use
a combination of fabric, paper, acrylic paint, charcoal, dyes and threads
and like the unpredictable occurrences that can arise with these materials’. |
